Supervises and coordinates activities of nursing personnel engaged in specific nursing services, such as but not limited to obstetrics, pediatrics, or surgery, or two or more patient care units.
Supervises Head Nurses in carrying out their responsibilities in the management of nursing care.
Evaluates performance of Head Nurse and nursing care as a whole and suggests modifications.
Inspects unit areas to verify that patient needs are met.
Participates in planning work of own units and coordinates activities with other patient care units and with those of related departments.
Consults with the Head Nurse on specific nursing problems and interpretation of hospital policies.
Supervises maintenance of personnel and nursing records.
Plans and organizes orientation and in-service training for unit staff members and participates in guidance and educational programs.
Interviews pre-screened applicants and makes recommendations for employing or terminating personnel.
Assists the Chief Nurse and Assistant Chief Nurse in formulating unit budgets.
Engages in studies and investigations related to improving nursing care.
Job Requirements:
B.S. Nursing degree from a reputable college or university.
With at least 9 units earned MA in Nursing or MS Nursing.
Experience as Head Nurse is required in which administrative, supervisory, and teaching abilities have been demonstrated.
Verbal ability is necessary to present information and ideas essential to supervisory duties, to understand advanced nursing theory and practice, and to maintain good working relationships with staff and medical personnel.
Clerical perception is necessary to prepare records and charts and to organize training programs.
A preference for contacts with people is required, as in supervising and responding to medical problems and concepts.
A preference for scientific and technical activities is required for understanding and responding to medical problems and concepts.
Ability to plan, supervise, and coordinate activities is required.
Has ability to interpret operating policies and procedures and to review work performance in determining conformance to recognized standards.
